KIN One and Two, social mobiles from Microsoft
April 12 was one of those days when the technological environment was waiting to see what was up one of the largest in the sector. In this case it was Microsoft, a company that last week had invited journalists to share a presentation would be giving in the United States on April 12, but without giving further details. Of course the general rumor of why this presentation became reality: the Redmond giant decided to show everyone their latest: Microsoft KIN.
As had been anticipating, Microsoft now breaks into the smartphone business directly. While not going to be himself which manufactures the device (this will take over Japan’s Sharp), this will be your smart phone as it will be the brand behind it.
In fact, there are two models: KIN KIN One and Two, both with their own features and designs, but with some features in common, especially that brand essence: it is in the two cases of social smartphones, is ie those that are intended for an audience keen on social networks. And of course, that both have Windows Phone.
Moreover, we find the first phones that include the Nvidia Tegra chip, a chip designed for smartphones that makes available a capacity of advanced graphics support while reducing power consumption. In this case, it APX2600 Tegra model, with a GeForce graphics processor that enables playback of videos in high definition (720p).
The two devices are tactile and have a sliding keyboard. They have WiFi, integrated GPS, FM radio and music player and video in various formats and both have the Zune media player. While KIN One (the most compact) has a 5 megapixel camera with flash and an integrated speakerphone, the KIN Two comes with a 8 megapixel camera with flash and stereo sound and also its QWERTY keyboard can be used with both hands . Even the latter is larger and more rectangular design than the other.
One drawback is the lack of inserting a card slot for expanding capacity. In this sense, we find two terminals 4 and 8 GB, depending on whether the One or Two respectively, and a storage capacity that can not be extended. However, a fundamental question is that will support the “cloud.”
What is this? As it is a smartphone based on public accustomed social networks, the content you want to share (photos, videos, links, etc..) Creep into the area is already KIN Spot and online, without taking up storage unit . The operating system of this unit is designed so that you can access the server from any other device.
And continuing the theme of social networks, has a simple and friendly interface from which you can automatically update services such as Facebook, Twitter and MySpace with all types of content, and allows automatic updating of other services such as news, some messages.
Two other novel features. KIN Loop On the one hand, related to the information that can be shared in real time, and KIN Studio, a place where you can store the information in the form online.
Respect to operators who participate in this business with Microsoft, are Verizon Wireless and Vodafone. The first will be the distributor in the United States from May. The second will be in some countries of the European market, specifically Germany, Spain, Italy and Britain, a few months after the country in North America.
What remains to be seen is the cost of these phones, and rates established operators, as well as whether the company said are intended for young audiences, will be considered if prices are also consistent with this audience. What is not known when he would be available in the countries of Latin America.
