VLC Media Player is most well known media player around the world, it is used to be said it runs whatever you give it to run and it is true that is why i also use this as my primary media files player. VLC team released last stable version 4 years ago and after that no major release and now after that huge passage of time they are about to release next version VLC 0.9.0 and there are many new features bundled with it.
They uploaded test version of this new release on their servers so everyone can download and try it on, The major change in this release is its interface they changed it a bit but i think this look is a little better than the older version the volume bar is totally changed, the overall size of vlc player has increased and main buttons are somewhat categorized this is the interface, and i like the new taskbar icon which help accessing basic controls with ease, the other kool feature which they added is Last.fm support what it do is whenever you play music with vlc it updates your Last.fm account.
Other main features of VLC 0.9.0 are:
- Improved playlist support: Shoutcast TV listings, Audioscrobbler/Last.FM support (in supported countries), album art, and more
- Better tag support
- Supports most types of subtitles
- New and enhanced filters
- Improved mouse gestures
- Full support for meta data editing (ID3v2, Ogg/Vorbis, AAC, APEv1/2)
note: This is test release this might be buggy (not for me till now)

yes.. but i prefer Media Player Classic (K-Lite Codec Pack) over VLC, much faster and it plays more formats and is more reliable
